    Mechanical Chime Clocks

I collect....and repair Vintage Mechanical Chime clocks ( Does not Everybody ??? hahah) Well....I would speculate that, this hobby....DOES connect with Machining !!! Both place value in precision....as DO Optics and Lasers !!! SOooo....SOMEHOW...it is ALL connected !!!

My latest great find was a " New to You " Howard Miller, Triple chime Carriage Clock 612-436....WHAT A BEAUTY...PERFECT....LIKE NEW....and ....and $ 300 cheaper than anything else I could find !! Going rate is about $ 475.....mine was $ 175 !!! HAHAHAHAHHAhhhhaaaa Christmas is AGAIN early !!! I cannot believe my LUCK !!!

SO....a quick adjustment of the Strike hammers...a few drops of Clock oil....and a good application of Old English wood restoration polish !!! Looks like a Museum Piece !!!!!

Ever since my great dog Terra passed this past June 6th...Well....I have had this....well...obsession with time !!! It is a strange reaction....but....on some level...predictable !!! ??? Anyway...it is harmless...and my wife is understanding....so...I guess it works.

I now have eight (8) clocks in my Workshop....all of which work....but...I only have room for one (1) more.....Sigh !!! At the hour....well....it is quite the " Chime, Strike, Ring, Bong and Gong Show " HAHAHAHA !! It makes me happy....almost as much as Lasers !!!!

    Later..Bob

Bob, what time is it? Now I know who to go to, my dad liked old clocks, he had lots of them when I was a young teen. If it costs so much to have them repaired, is this a possible part time income stream for you, if you wanted to do so? Maybe lasers and the hobby side of your clocks already takes up a lot of your time.

Clocks and lasers are kind of opposed, in a way, because light knows no time, time stands still for light as it travels through space while clocks tick away.

Well....Fiddling with them...so they ALL chime...about the same time...well...It is like "Herding Cats"...Hahaha.
Again...the connection may be the common ground of Precision !!

As far as repair costs.....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Cannot afford that !!!! ...Right !!!...I am learning as I go...I have cleaned and oiled most of my collection. I know how to adjust the speed on all of them. More serious issues...well...I know enough to MAYBE figure out what is wrong !!! Now...How to fix ?????...some things are easy....others are more serious...and not YET in my Skill Set !!! I may get there...some year !!

Income stream...Maybe....Lord knows....the Art of Clock Repair is ...well....evaporating !!! If it does NOT connect to the WWW.... It is fast becoming a Lost Art !!! Sigh....So it Goes !!!

Nice pic you added, have more? My dad sure liked those old clocks. I can't own things like that living temporarily in Qatar... well, I shouldn't even be buying laser stuff for that matter.
